How to Create a Podcast Episode
Ever wondered how a podcast episode goes from a simple idea to a fully published episode?
I’m breaking down my entire process—from that first spark of inspiration to hitting the publish button. If you struggle with consistent content creation or fear running out of things to share, this blog (and episode!) is for you.
Spur-of-the-Moment Inspiration Podcast Episodes
Some of the best ideas come when you least expect them—during a walk, in the shower, or while meditating.
The key is capturing those moments before they slip away!
Use a voice note or jot it down in a notes app.
Don’t overthink it—what seems small to you might be exactly what someone needs to hear.
Revisit these notes when planning your episodes.
Or, my favorite thing to do is jump onto my computer, hit record, and see what comes out!
Planned and Prepped Podcast Episodes
While spontaneous episodes are great, having a strategy ensures consistency. Here’s how I approach planned intentional podcast episodes:
Choose topics that align with your niche and expertise. How can you showcase and share value in your area of work or coaching?
Look at frequently asked questions from your audience. If you’re always answering the same questions this is a great opportunity to create a podcast episode you can reshare over and over!
Use recurring discussions as inspiration. When working with clients you might see a theme, share it! These make great related episodes that help others feel seen and get unstuck.
Create a loose outline to stay on track and maximize value for listeners.
Podcast Guest Interviews
Bringing guests onto your show? Here’s how I ensure quality conversations:
Research guests in advance to ensure they align with your audience.
Plan guiding questions but stay flexible to allow natural flow.
It’s okay to say no to guests who don’t fit your podcast’s mission. Your trust with your audience is at stake if you don’t vet the people you bring onto your podcast.
The Final Steps in Creating a Podcast Episode
Once the episode is planned and recorded, it’s time to bring it to life:
Record – Whether solo or with a guest, focus on clear audio quality.
Edit – Cut out distractions. If you like a polished feel or more conversational, edit accordingly. There’s no right or wrong way here.
Upload – Use a hosting platform like Buzzsprout.
Publish or Schedule – Set your episode live and share it with the world!
