How to Start a Podcast
All of the info you need to launch is in my podcast guide!
First off, if this has been something you’ve had a nudge about starting… do it!
You don’t have to understand it, yet. Things always reveal themselves as you go.
This definitely means there are other people who need to hear the message YOU have!
My first set of advice is to jump and quit hiding behind your comfort zone!
It’s time you get your specific set of gifts out into the world. Someone just a little bit behind you in your journey is waiting for you to lead the way right now.
I wholeheartedly know and believe this.
Let’s get into it, so you can skip a LOT of Googling and overwhelm!
Now, this is just one blog so you aren’t going to get ALL of the steps, but this will get you a good jump on the technical back end things.
Back end steps to starting your podcast…
Pick a microphone and order it. I went on Amazon and scrolled through too many recommendations and then went with this one. I didn’t want to spend a bajillion dollars on it, but I wanted quality sound. I’m very pleased with the mic I have.
Name your podcast. Make it short and sweet, easy to remember and/or meaningful. Mine is Better Brave: Your Podcasting Mentor.
Create the cover artwork. Head over to canva.com, use the square Instagram post size, and then search “podcast cover” templates. You’ll get a ton of great professional looking options to plug in your info and a picture of yourself. Be sure to download it as a picture (PNG or JPG) to upload during the next step.
Remember, done is better than perfect!
You can always adjust this later, but don’t let this be your hang up that stops you from getting your content out to the world.
4. Pick a host platform for your podcast. I use Buzzsprout. Here is a referral link that can give you a $20 credit when you sign up for the paid version. There is a free version. I use the $18 a month plan.
This site is where you will add all of the details of your podcast (i.e. description, name, cover image, etc).
This platform will automatically push your podcast episodes out to servers like Apple Podcast, Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music and more.
I’ll be going over more details and step by step instructions to make sure all of this is set up properly in my virtual class.
After spending a year Googling how to start a podcast, these are the initial set up steps I would suggest.
I’m super excited to help give more women like you a voice that can be heard!
